Avengers TV Series?! We were in disbelief when we heard such a rumor until the announcement of agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Honestly it’s not far off, since they’re responsible of keeping super powered and other outworldly things in check.
After the success of Marvel’s highly anticipated film of last year, fans were promised a live-action spin-off TV series based on Joss Whedon’s the Avengers. However, it may surprise, or even shock you to know that Joss Whedon’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D will be less of an Avengers story and more of a spin-off series that focuses on agent Phil Coulson and of course the other agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. The series takes place during the aftermath of the Avengers movie and consists of a cast of mostly newer characters. The cast includes Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge, Chloe Bennett, Ian De Caestecker, and August Richards. Whedon is set to work as a writer/executive producer for the show, as well as direct the pilot episode, and Clark Gregg will be reprising his role as agent Coulson, who was supposedly dead in the movie. I guess they’re just going along with the Marvel tradition of bringing back dead characters without making any sense of it. Let’s not forget Elektra, Winter Soldier, Phoenix.
I think if they had created a show focusing on the actual Avengers it would have just taken away the build-up that the movies are trying to create for them. A show about an agency that supports the Avengers and collects other heroes with unique powers could be an interesting show. After seeing the trailers for it, I can say for myself that the affects don’t look great, the acting doesn’t look great, and needless to say it doesn’t look as epic as the Avengers was. However, I think a series like this could be done really well if done right.
